The South Australian Railway Modellers Association Incorporated was formed in 1957 by a group of individuals interested in modelling the railways of South Australia. It was originally housed on railway property in 'Tin Town'; an area between the Adelaide Railway Station and the City Baths. With the redevelopment of this area for the Festival Centre project, the club was forced to relocate - this time to a block of railway land at the yard throat of the former Mile End diesel depot, - the perfect spot for a fledging model railway club. With the standardisation of the Adelaide to Melbourne main line in 1995, SARMA was informed that they would again need to move premises, as the current site was to become the end of the new standard gauge crossing loop. With this news, the clubs possessions were loaded into a shipping container, and the club moved into a section of the former SAR/AN apprentice workshops at Islington Workshops. During 2003, Australian Railroad Group informed the tenants of the AMRE clubrooms that we would be required to vacate the premises, and SARMA moved to temporary clubrooms in the Uniting Church on Prospect Road at Prospect. Eventually the club moved again to their current premises at 'The Shed' and 'Log Cabin' on Lyons Road at Dernancourt. We have a membership of over 70 individuals with range of modelling interests, in scales ranging from N to G. We have modelling/work/running nights each Wednesday night at 'The Shed', with a General Meeting held in 'The log cabin' on the second Wednesday evening of each month commencing at 7.30pm.
